Stock futures are little changed as traders brace for wholesale inflation report: Live updates

Stock futures remained largely stagnant on Wednesday evening as investors paused to catch their breath before a critical week of economic data. After three consecutive days of losses across major U.S. indices, including a significant drop for the Dow Jones Industrial Average, traders are now bracing for the release of several key inflation reports. While some futures showed marginal gains and others dipped slightly, the overall mood is one of cautious anticipation as the market waits to see where wholesale and consumer prices stand.

The prevailing tension stems from a combination of rising Treasury yields and geopolitical instability. A recent decision by the Treasury Department to aggressively buy back long term debt pushed the 10 year Treasury note yield to its highest point since late 2023, which in turn sent mortgage rates climbing toward the seven percent mark. At the same time, escalating friction between the United States and Iran has driven oil prices upward, with Brent crude hitting levels not seen since May, adding further pressure to global equity sentiments.

This volatility has already spilled over into Asian markets, where indexes in Japan, South Korea, and Australia all opened lower on Thursday morning. In particular, Australian equities faced sharp declines led by mining giants like Rio Tinto and BHP Group. This regional slump mirrors the fragility currently felt on Wall Street as participants prepare for Thursday’s producer price index report followed by Friday’s highly anticipated consumer price index update.

Beyond the macroeconomic headlines, individual corporate movements continued to create pockets of activity in after hours trading. Drone maker AeroVironment saw its shares climb after delivering quarterly results that far exceeded analyst expectations for both earnings and revenue. Conversely, American Eagle Outfitters took a hit with shares sliding ten percent after reporting disappointing comparable sales and lowering its outlook for operating income. All eyes now remain fixed on the coming inflation prints to determine if these downward trends will persist or reverse.
