Southwest Airlines to open new lounges in these 4 airports. See where

Southwest Airlines is shaking up its traditional approach to passenger comfort by announcing the launch of its very first airport lounge network. In a move that signals a shift toward more premium offerings, the carrier plans to open initial locations in four major hubs by late 2027. These first spots will be situated at Austin Bergstrom International Airport in Texas, Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Maryland, Daniel K Inouye International Airport in Hawaii, and Nashville International Airport in Tennessee.

This expansion comes through a strategic partnership with Chase Bank, leveraging the existing infrastructure of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Lounge Network. While Southwest has remained tight lipped about the specific blueprints for each space, company representatives say guests can expect a blend of their signature friendly service paired with sophisticated design and dining inspired by the local culture of each city. Based on similar Chase lounges, travelers might see perks like wellness areas with massage chairs, private resting pods, and high speed internet.

Access to these exclusive spaces will be tied to loyalty and credit rewards rather than standard ticketing. To facilitate this, Chase Bank intends to roll out a new premium Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card in 2027 specifically designed to grant cardholders entry into the network. This creates a clear path for frequent flyers to upgrade their pre flight experience while remaining within the Southwest ecosystem.

While these four cities are leading the charge, this is only the beginning of a larger rollout strategy. The airline revealed that it expects to add another seven lounges across various locations over the coming years. Although those future sites have not yet been disclosed, the initiative marks a significant evolution for an airline that has historically focused on a simplified point to point model without luxury waiting areas.
