What a $10,000 Investment in Amazon Now Would Be Worth if Its Anthropic Stake Gets Marked at $2 Trillion

Wall Street is buzzing with rumors of a massive initial public offering for AI powerhouse Anthropic, with some reports suggesting a valuation as high as 2 trillion dollars. Such a listing would not only make it one of the most valuable companies in history but would also eclipse SpaceX’s previous record. While many retail investors are eyeing the IPO directly, those who hold shares in Amazon may find they already have a golden ticket. Through a series of strategic investments totaling billions of dollars, Amazon has quietly positioned itself as one of Anthropic’s most significant backers, turning a corporate partnership into a potential financial windfall.

The relationship began in late 2023 when Amazon Web Services stepped in to provide the infrastructure necessary to train and serve the Claude generative models. Over several rounds of funding, Amazon poured capital into the startup while securing a massive commitment from Anthropic to spend over 100 billion dollars on AWS services over ten years. Though Amazon keeps its exact ownership percentage under wraps, current filings suggest it owns roughly 19.7 percent of the company. At a hypothetical 2 trillion dollar market cap, that slice would be worth approximately 394 billion dollars, representing an incredible jump from its original cost basis.

For the average investor, this means owning Amazon is effectively like holding a diversified bet on the future of artificial intelligence. Because Amazon’s current market capitalization sits around 2.8 trillion dollars, their stake in Anthropic accounts for about 14 cents of every dollar spent on AMZN stock. This creates an interesting scenario for anyone looking to enter the market now; if you were to invest 10,000 dollars in Amazon today, about 1,430 dollars of that position would essentially be tied to Anthropic’s success.

While much of this growth is already reflected in Amazon’s books, there is still room for meaningful upside. Since Amazon currently carries the position at roughly 190 billion dollars, a leap to a public valuation of nearly 400 billion would bridge a gap of about 204 billion dollars in value. For that same 10,000 dollar investment, this jump could translate to an additional gain of around 740 dollars purely from the repricing event. Ultimately, Amazon hasn’t just made a lucky venture bet; it has strategically locked in both guaranteed cloud revenue and explosive equity growth in one move.
