Chobani Begins Its Next Chapter of Growth With Approximately $1.2 Billion Investment in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Chobani is planting a massive flag in Pennsylvania with a planned 1.2 billion dollar investment in Allentown, marking one of the most significant expansions in the company’s history. By acquiring a sprawling 1.5 million square foot manufacturing and warehouse campus from Keurig Dr Pepper, the yogurt giant intends to turn the Lehigh Valley into a primary engine for its next generation of food and beverage innovation. The move is expected to support more than 900 jobs and establish a high tech hub capable of accelerating how quickly new ideas move from the laboratory to the grocery shelf.

This strategic pivot isn’t just about floor space; it’s about rethinking dairy. Chobani plans to leverage its twenty years of experience to produce specialized milk featuring higher protein levels and lower sugar content than traditional options. These staples will serve as the base for a variety of new offerings, including high protein shakes made with real ingredients. From a logistical standpoint, Allentown is an ideal choice, sitting within 500 miles of roughly 40 percent of the United States population, which allows the company to efficiently ship fresh products to some of the largest consumer markets in the country.

For Pennsylvania, the deal represents a historic win for the agricultural sector. Governor Josh Shapiro noted that this is the largest private sector investment in the history of the state’s agriculture industry, promising a transformative boost for local dairy farmers. At full capacity, the facility is projected to source over 3 billion pounds of Pennsylvania milk every year, providing critical stability and demand for thousands of family owned farms across the commonwealth. Founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya remarked that the richness of Pennsylvania’s dairy heritage reminded him of Chobani’s early roots in Upstate New York.

The transition also signals a deepening corporate bond between Chobani and Keurig Dr Pepper beyond simple manufacturing. As part of the agreement, Chobani is repurchasing equity stakes and expanding its distribution partnership with KDP, granting them access to a delivery network that reaches about 80 percent of Americans. While ownership changes hands, KDP has worked to ensure continuity for workers at the plant, offering existing staff roles within Chobani to maintain steady employment during the handover. This project is part of a larger four billion dollar nationwide investment strategy by Chobani as it seeks to redefine itself as more than just a yogurt brand.
