Microsoft discloses Azure revenue as part of major financial reporting changes

Microsoft is shaking up its financial reporting strategy to better align with the era of artificial intelligence, moving toward a simplified structure that offers investors an unprecedented look at its core operations. Starting in late October for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, the tech giant will collapse its previous three business segments into just two categories known as Agents and Infra and Devices and Consumer. According to CEO Satya Nadella, this pivot reflects a profound shift in how the company builds products and operates its business models as AI continues to blur traditional product boundaries.

The most significant detail for Wall Street is Microsoft’s decision to finally disclose specific quarterly revenue figures for Azure. While the company had previously relied on sharing year over year growth percentages, it will now provide full transparency regarding the actual dollars coming in from its cloud infrastructure. To ensure this data is precise, Nadella noted that Azure will be treated strictly as a consumption based platform, meaning certain specialized streams like GitHub cloud and Security Copilot will be separated from those primary numbers.

Under this new arrangement, the Devices and Consumer wing will house everything from Windows OEM and Xbox to search advertising and LinkedIn revenues. Meanwhile, Agents and Infra acts as a catch all for the bulk of Microsoft’s powerhouse services, encompassing not only Azure but also Microsoft 365 Cloud, various server products, and a suite of enterprise partner services which the company has rebranded as frontier and support services. By streamlining these reports, Microsoft aims to give shareholders a clearer picture of how generative AI is driving growth across its diverse portfolio.
